Prem Ushma

Sharing Warmth, Providing Blankets

Every night in such a harsh winter, hundreds sleep on the cold roads & streets of Varanasi without any warmth. Our team wanders throughout the nights road by road, looking for souls sleeping without any blanket; help us provide warmth and comfort through blanket distribution.

About Prem Ushma

Prem Ushma means "Warmth of Love" - a fitting name for our campaign to provide blankets and dignity to those sleeping on the roads & streets of Varanasi.

Blanket distribution to homeless

The Challenge

During the harsh winter months in Varanasi (Kashi), temperatures can drop significantly at night. For those without any cover or shelter, these cold nights can be life-threatening. Many elderly, disabled, homeless and women & children individuals sleep on below flyovers, cremation grounds, pavements, railway platforms, roads, streets, and temple premises without any protection from the cold.

Our Response

Every night, our team travels through the ghats, roads, and streets of Varanasi, scanning for those in need and providing them with warm, quality blankets. We ensure that the most vulnerable - the elderly, sick, women and children - are prioritized.

Why Prem Ushma Matters

Life-Saving

Winter nights in Varanasi can be harsh and chilling. A blanket can literally mean the difference between life and death for someone sleeping on the streets without one.

Dignity & Comfort

Beyond physical warmth, a blanket provides psychological comfort and a sense of being cared for. It restores dignity and hope.

Community Impact

When we care for the most vulnerable, we strengthen our entire community and inspire others to contribute to positive change.

How We Distribute Blankets

Our distribution process ensures that every blanket reaches those who need it most.

1

Scan

Our volunteers survey areas where homeless individuals sleep - railway stations, temples, ghats, road and streets.

2

Prioritize

We prioritize elderly, sick, women and children individuals who are most vulnerable.

3

Distribute

Quality blankets are distributed with respect and care, ensuring dignity in every interaction.

4

Follow-up

We return to the same locations regularly to check on recipients and help new individuals in need.

Every Blanket Tells a Story

Each blanket we distribute brings warmth, comfort, and hope to someone in need.
